LED Warehouse Lights – What are They and Why Use Them?

Commercial costs can be high when multiple factors are combined. These factors include utility bills, maintenance costs, salaries, etc. This is why business owners will choose economical options when available. When it comes to saving electricity due to excessive use of lighting, the most economical option is LEDs. Additionally, they also help businesses to become environmentally friendly.
Warehousing is a common part of several types of businesses. Just like other large spaces, warehouses also require sufficient and quality illumination. In today’s post, we define what LED warehouse lights are and why to choose them for your business.

What are LED Warehouse Lights?
Warehouses are generally large spaces.  They require lights that have the ability to be bright and illuminate evenly at different angles. LED warehouse lights are specifically designed for this purpose. They can also be used for any space that features ceilings higher than 14 feet. Such lights are also known as high bay lights, one type of LED lighting.

Why Choose LED High Bay Lights?
Here is a list of reasons why it is a good choice to install high bay LEDs in your warehouse:

Energy-efficient
The regular light will use 5 to 10 times more electricity cost than the original cost of the bulbs. LEDs use less energy but produce brighter light as compared to traditional lighting options. Reducing usage up to 85% over incandescent and 60-70% over metal halide

Safety
LEDs include no mercury or UV, unlike regular lights. Modern LEDs are also coming with innovations that reduce the risk of blue light damage.

Brighter Light
Lumens are used for measuring the brightness of a LED light. While there is no hard and fast conversion method from watts to lumens, a LED light will provide approximately 70 lumens per watt. This offers a very bright light output without using much energy, which is the number of wattages.

Long Lasting
LEDs generally have a longer lifespan than traditional lighting options. A single bulb can provide 100,000 hours of light. This makes the LED 15 times more long-lasting than the regular bulb.

Low Maintenance
Warehouses typically take some maintenance and organization costs. But it is possible to save money on maintenance of lighting fixtures if LEDs are installed. Nowadays, most LEDs come with no ballast and strike maintenance requirements. It is also convenient given the fact that the ceilings are so high.

Variety of Colors
Regular lighting does come in different colors but LED provides an even larger variety. While typical colors include warm, cool, and daylight, LEDs can provide a variety of colors using different materials that produce photons at multiple wavelengths.

The Angle of Illumination for Warehouse Lighting
When buying the LED warehouse lights, you can determine the beam angles to ensure that the area is evenly and effectively illuminated. The beam angle of the LED light is the measure of light distributed across the space from it.

For warehouse lighting, a beam angle of 120 degrees is the standard. This is quite effective from ceilings that are between 15 and 30 feet. The beam angle becomes narrower as the ceiling height increases above this range.

For ceilings that are between 25 and 40 feet, the standard beam angle is 90 degrees. If required, LED warehouse lights with a 60 degree beam angle are also available at Rugged Grade Lighting.

How to get the most out of LED Warehouse Lights?
Commercial and public spaces like parking lots, warehouses, wall lights and streets use metal halide or high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting. In case of switching to LEDs, it can be a complicated process to determine how many lumens will provide the same function as the watts of regular lights. As mentioned before, there is no solid conversion of watts to lumens. The following examples may be helpful:
• For a 25-watt metal halide or HPS bulb, use a 100-watt LED with 13,000 lumens
• For a 400-watt metal halide or HPS bulb, use a150-watt LED with 20,000 lumens
• For a 750-watt metal halide or HPS bulb, use a 240-watt LED with 32,000 lumens
For more accurate replacement, it is suggested to consult a lighting engineer.

Things to Consider when Buying LED Warehouse Lights
Here are some considerations that can help buy the best LEDs for a warehouse:
Number of Lumens
The lumens can help determine the brightness of the light. The larger the number of lumens, the better will be the brightness.
Lumens vs. Watts
For LEDs, the number of lumens matters more than the wattage. This is why experts recommend preferring lumens than wattage. The reason is that LEDs are designed to use less energy but provide better brightness as well.
Kelvins
The kelvins determine the color temperature of the LED. It shows how cool or warm the light will be. For example, you will find 5,000K, 4,000K, and 3,000K LEDs in the market. A lower number of kelvins means warmer and softer light. The light will become brighter and whiter as kelvins increase.
Mounting
You will come across a variety of mounting styles in LEDs for warehouses. However, the hook and flood or U-bracket styles are more typical.

Motion Sensors
Some LED warehouse lights and LED parking Lot Lights come with motion sensors. Installing them depends on what extent of convenience you require at the warehouse. Some spaces may have the necessity for the sensors. Sensors can be active or passive. Active sensors respond to ultrasonic waves while passive ones respond to temperature.

Why is it Important to Have Good Lighting?
A warehouse is an area that requires organization. Also, employees or any guests with access to the warehouse should be able to enjoy better convenience and productivity. LEDs are safer for the eyes and provide more brightness so work becomes more manageable. With LED warehouse lights, a business organization can also save the cost of utility and maintenance bills while reducing the carbon footprint at the same time.

If planning to switch to LEDs at your warehouse, buy the lights from Rugged Grade Lighting to enjoy high-quality and well-designed LEDs.
