What Are LED Corn Light Bulbs?

For those who don’t know, LED corn bulbs have lines of square light diodes on every side. It is known as corn bulb because of their shape; it looks like a corn on the cob. The bulb has separate LED lights that contain 80 to 108 lights. The number of lights is directly dependent on the size and style of the corn bulb.

Additionally, LED corn bulbs are developed to be an alternative to the metal halide bulbs and HID lamps. It is an ideal choice for outdoor use, such as high bay lighting, parking spaces, and street lighting.

Reasons To Use Why LED Corn Light Bulbs

There are many reasons for using LED corn bulbs, have a look at most-compelling reasons.

Saves Energy

The LED corn bulbs are known to be energy efficient. This is because the diode bulbs need less energy than fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. It is a great way not only to reduce the energy bill but to save energy as well. Though LED corn bulbs might seem expensive, in the long run, you will be able to save thousands on your bill.

No Hazardous Chemicals

The LED corn bulbs are eco-friendly and safe for not only but for the planet as well. It doesn’t contain mercury, making it safe. Mercury is a toxic chemical that has harmful effects on the people who are exposed to the light. Moreover, it can even damage the environment if it leaks into the water.

Safer

The LED lights are safe to use as they don’t emit UV rays. This is the reason why you can use it in heat sensitive areas.

Brighter Than Traditional Lighting

Another great reason for using the LED corn bulbs is that they are brighter and will enhance your visibility. This is why it is perfect for outdoor use such as LED Parking Lot Lights

Longer Lasting

One of the reasons to use LED corn bulbs is that it has a long life. The LED bulbs are durable and robust, so it will not get damaged easily. They are designed to last for a long time; it can nearly last 6 times longer than the other lights. This will even help save your money as you will not have to replace the bulbs frequently. According to experts, these can last for up to 50,000 hours.

Requires No Maintenance

Another reason for using LED corn bulbs is that you won’t have to waste your precious time in maintenance of the bulb. It is because these bulbs are developed to work efficiently for a long time.

Color Choices

If you buy LED light, you will have a wide range of color choices. The LED bulbs are now available in different colors, from red, orange to blue, green, and violet. The manufacturers can even mix shades to create different colors.

Base types

The LED corn bulbs are available in two base types.

E26

The E26 base bulb is known as one-inch Edison screw or Medium Edison Screw. This is the standard base for the bulbs. The E stands for Edison and the number 26 is the diameter in mm. Mostly, the E26 base is a normal base for a 120-watt bulb.

E39

This base type is referred to as Mogul Edison Screw or Goliath Edison Screw. Just like the E26, the E denotes Edison and 39 represents the diameter of the base in mm. This base type is perfect for industrial uses like in factories, warehouses, farms, and barns. The wattage of this bulb is 250W.

Fitment

When you are buying an LED bulb, you need to make sure you get the perfect fit. For this, you must always measure the size of the light. This is to ensure you have the right lighting in your room. If the light is not of the right size, it might not fit properly. This will have a direct impact on your visibility.

Ballast

The traditional lights use ballast to control the electric current in the bulb. The LED lights don’t need a ballast as they don’t need a huge amount of electricity to provide light. The size of an LED corn bulb is smaller than other lights, this is why the ballast must be removed. The ballast has a chance of failing, so it is better to remove it from the bulb.

Direction

A wonderful thing about the LED light is that it can be installed in a different direction. The corn bulbs can be installed as:

• 360 degree all direction light

• 180 flat paddle style light

• Downlights with base at top for high bay warehouse lighting

• Post lights

Things to Consider

As there are many things you need to focus on, here few of the things you must not ignore.

• You must not only focus on watts, you need to consider lumens as well.

• Since the bulbs are available in different colors, you need to look at Kelvin. The safe colors are 5000K, 4000K, and 3000K.

Replacing Metal Halide or High-Pressure Sodium

When you are replacing a 150-175 watt Metal Halide or High-Pressure Sodium bulb, you must use a 50-60 watt LED bulb. For replacing a 250-watt Metal Halide or High-Pressure Sodium light, you should get an 80-100 watt bulb with about 13,000 lumens. On the other hand, for replacing a 400-watt Metal Halide or High-Pressure Sodium bulb, you can use a bulb with 150 watt and 20,000 lumens. If you wish to replace a bigger bulb, you will need a fixture.

In the end, long gone are days when LED was considered as harmful for your eyes. With the advancement of technology, LED lights have become better and safer.
